Sina Avsar earned his Bachelor of Engineering and Masters from Istanbul Technical University in 1995 and 1997 respectively. He has worked as a design engineer in the SfS programme of NATO, and in 2005 he completed his PhD at Monash University (Australia). He joined Dredging International as a project engineer at the New Doha International Airport (NDIA) project in August 2005.

The New Doha International Airport project in Qatar comprises amongst other things the construction of a 22-km2 reclamation area. The hydraulically reclaimed fill is compacted using a combination of compaction techniques, amongst which High Energy Impact Compaction (HEIC).
