Gijs Kok graduated as a land and water engineer from Wageningen University, the Netherlands (1972). He has been working with NEDECO members, a group of independent consultancies and institutes, since then. In 1977 he joined Royal Haskoning as a water specialist and team leader for environmental projects. In 1994 he joined DHV BV as a senior project manager and advisor for water and environment. He has worked extensively in China and Vietnam dealing with soil fertility, water excesses, shortages and pollution, including flood and drought preparedness.
