A joint study to explore financing of green coastal, river and port projects. Solutions are available, have been tested and are economically viable.
Looking at New Orleans, a feasibility study demonstrates that the dangerous threat of damage from hurricane storm-surge can be mitigated by using modern coastal engineering and lessons learnt elsewhere.
Geotextile tubes or Geotubes® have been applied in coastal engineering for shore protection and breakwaters, and have been used on land and in shallow water. A new method of filling a continuous Geotube® would allow them to be used in rough and relatively deep water.
