The Seminar on Dredging and Reclamation in Bogor, Indonesia held for a week at the end of October was a resounding success with excellent delegate participation and engaging presentations by seminar lecturers.
This one week seminar was held by IADC in conjunction with Indonesian Port Corporation (IPC) Corporate University. The seminar was aimed to provide key staff and decision makers of port management and professionals with practical knowledge of the dredging industry.
Attendees had a full immersion course on the dredging industry by learning about the need for dredging and how dredging and reclamation can contribute in the development of new ports and the maintenance of existing ports. The lectures also gave a thorough look into the different types of dredgers and equipment used in the industry, the need for soil investigation and surveying in dredging, hydraulic fills, and how tender processes work.
The seminar also included a trip to the New Priok Container Terminal where participants gained an insight on the major port project that is currently in development in Jakarta, Indonesia. The New Priok is an extension of Tanjung Priok, the busiest port in the country.
The seminar also included five workshops that allowed the participants to apply what they studied in the lectures and learn about how contractors bid for a tender – delegates participated in a mock tender bidding process as a contractor. On the last day, the winning team won prices from the IADC – a book, Environmental Aspects of Dredging published by Taylor & Francis.
On the second day of the seminar, participants also enjoyed a relaxed, fun-filled evening with music and good buffet food during the rooftop dinner at the IPC Corporate University.
IADC organises the Seminar on Dredging and Reclamation two to three times in a year in various locations across the globe. Please visit IADC’s events section to find out more information about upcoming seminars on dredging.
